Brandon's new job!

My big brother Brandon is now the golf course Superintendent for the Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale!! It's a MAJOR step up for him and what he's been dreaming about for years. Gainey Ranch has the golf club and course, plus a world-renowned Hyatt Regency and a spa. It's also well-known for the gondola rides. We took Nannie and Poppie to the restaurant there for their 60th anniversary last summer.
The web site said this: "Gainey Ranch Golf Club, an award-winning 27-hole private golf club, offers unparalleled golf on three distinctive, championship 9-hole courses: The Lakes, The Dunes and The Arroyo. Nestled in the heart of paradise, Gainey Ranch was once an historic Arabian horse ranch owned by Daniel C. Gainey. With panoramic views of the McDowell Mountains, the allure of the Sonoran Desert and breathtaking blue skies, Gainey Ranch is more than just a golf club; it’s a home away from home." Ooooo, impressive! :)
Here's another description:
"Set within the 560-acre Gainey Ranch, this 27-acre desert oasis combines the beauty of the majestic McDowell Mountains, palm trees, cacti and wild flowers with the spirit of native peoples to create a sense of comfortable elegance."

Isn't that awesome??? This is more of the resort itself:

There's tons of cool pictures on the resort web site if you're curious (or planning a trip out here!):

Congratulations, B!!! :)

Play Date!

We went back to Julie and Brandon's today so the boys could play and they had a blast. Well, OK, also so Julie and I could play! :)
They have this perfect little "garden" as Julie calls it--a yard with grass and plenty of room to play. That and all the other fun toys meant they were both occupied and happy (nearly) the whole time. Andrew even napped again! Aren't they so cute??
They both enjoyed swinging and sliding on the castle.

Golf was a favorite activity, not surprisingly--even though they define "golf" as hitting ANY ball with a club. Or just swinging the clubs around wildly!!

Andrew also LOVES this dinosaur/ball toy. I'm glad we don't have one so it's novel. It occupied him for quite a while and they even played together with it some.

All in all, it was a lovely afternoon--the perfect Arizona weather didn't hurt, either. And I'm so glad to be getting to know my sister-in-law and nephew better! I think Logan even recognized me from last time, which warms my heart. We are very blessed!

Potty Training

Yes, I've been putting off potty training with Andrew. He's been interested in the potty for a while now and definitely gets the concept. He's displaying lots of readiness signs--can undress himself, goes a while without going, knows when he's about to go #2, etc., etc. As of today, we know he can undress, pull the stool over and get on by himself!! Plus, he knows what to do with te toilet paper--he likes to come in and hand it to me--so helpful, our boy! Anyway, I've never even shown him how to use the stool and all that--we've only used the stool for washing hands! So, I heard him in the bathroom today and just figured he was washing his hands--but walked in to find him like THIS.

Yup, he gets it. I walked in and he said, "Mommy, I go potty." And so it begins. I don't have a clue about potty training so it'll be a learning experience. I've gotta get a star chart and M&Ms, right?? :)

playing it safe

Yes, this blog is now private so if you're here, you're a friend or family member, so--welcome!! :) Why private, you ask?? No, I'm not paranoid--just "playing it safe," as they say. I deleted the family blog completely because it had our real names on there and changing them would've been a huge pain. The blogs I left all have fake names for us and my profile doesn't have my first name anymore. Plus I deleted all the pictures of kids and all that. Since I run the blog for my church's moms' group, I didn't want the moms to worry about their kids picures ending up on there, or lecture me about Andrew's name and pictures on there, either.
Yes, there are sickos out there and it makes me very sad (OK, more ticked off than sad) that it has to dictate my decisions. I don't really worry about someone in cyberspace finding my blog, seeing pictures and going to great lengths to track us down--but in the spirit of "choosing my battles," this is a battle I'm not willing to fight. There's the old "It can't happen to me" mentality and, well, it does happen to people, so--as much as I can prevent it, I will.
So...this blog is private and the rest are as safe as I can make them. BUT, the good news is, this one can be that much more personal--and more pictures! :)
Hope to see you back often.

Week of 2/17

Monday started out week off well--Andrew and I had a "play date" at Nana's with my nephew, Logan! They got along just fine.

We took them to a local park but they weren't very interested. Andrew had fun pushing the stroller, though!!

I also went to Bunco that night--and won my $10 back for last Bunco! Woo-hoo!!
I worked Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday then Drew took Thursday off from work so it was nice to have him around. That night, we had dinner with my "boss" and her kids because her hubby was out of town. The kids had a blast, the food was great and it was fun to get together outside of "work."
Friday, Drew left on a little mini-retreat with the elder team at church and had a good time. Andrew and I headed to my sister-in-law's and we ended up staying all afternoon and evening! The boys again played so nicely together. Andrew loves his cousin and gave him a lot of crazy hugs and kisses!! It was fun for him to play with different toys and he even took a long nap in the guest room!!
Saturday, Nana came over to play with Andrew while I hosted a networking event that ended up being a total flop. I went to a lot of trouble to have so many ladies flake out on me so the next event is going to be held elsewhere. People are so flaky and I'm not exempt, either! My one friend and I had a nice time together, though! After that, Mom and I got to have lunch and chat while Andrew napped, then we ran errands together once Drew returned home. I got lots of new goodies for the kids at "work" (a sorting activity, s shapes puzzle, art paper, some posters, etc.) and a few goodies for me, too! :)
One thing I got were these potted flowers to prettify the front porch--spring is springing!!

I loooove spring--especially the flowers! I treated myself to these tulips and got a bouquet for my boss, too--Mom saw them and said, "Wow, they look so real!" I said, "They ARE!" Heehee.

Today was church and I tell ya, I really appreciate our church family. It's so nice to be encouraged, to be challenged, to worship, to spend time with my favorite two-year-olds, to see old friends...I felt very blessed today. I so enjoy hearing our pastor teach--it's always very real and applicable. And, yes entertaining at times!! Today, he used a game of poker as the visual, talking about whether we're "all in" or whether we fold for the cause of Jesus. We each got a poker chip as that reminder...to ask yourself, "Am I all in or do I fold?" Yes, the Christian life has its challenges and yes, we do often sacrifice and toil to follow Jesus and live a Godly life...but knowing it's not for us, but for the Lord--well, that makes it worth it. We are very blessed and even though Drew's looking for a new job and money is tight and life isn't perfect all the time--we have peace. We know God is in control and the things we go through are to bring Him glory. What's a little temporary struggle if it advances the cause of Christ and brings us closer to Him? A small price to pay.
Tonight, our home group meets here--should be fun!! Hope your weekend was wonderful!

Phew!! What a week!!

So with Monday being a holiday, Drew being home one day and with me now working four days instead of three--wow, this week whizzed by!! It's kind of a blur, too--except that I know I finally got the house all beautified and it looks darn good. Maybe I'll take pictures in the pretty morning light tomorrow before my event.
Gosh. What did I do this week??? Finally got groceries...ran a few errands...went to the bank twice...lots of laundry...lots of time with kids (mine and others)...yeah, good week!! :)
We had dinner with my boss/friend/neighbor, which was a treat. Today, I enjoyed a marathon play date at my sister-in-law's house. Gosh...I guess that's about it. I must say, Andrew had a good week, all things considered. A few rough spots, as always, but had no symptoms of a cold, which has been rare lately. And with all the time we spent with other kids, he did great! He's being super-gentle with smaller kids, which is such a relief to me. I hated him being the instigator, but now the other kids are the ones in the hitting phase--which is fine by me!! I'd rather him be hit than be the hitter--and he takes it all in stride, anyway.
Drew is now looking for a new job. He'll be done before the end of the month at his current job--and doesn't really have any clear direction on what he's doing next! I know worrying about it is fruitless, so I'm just trusting God to "do His thing." Keep Drew in your prayers. He's a smart guy--he'll figure it out.
I feel very at peace today and like good things are on the horizon. Plus, the weekend is here!! Hope your week was wonderful-

Look what I won!!!

And, no, I'm not pregnant!! I was just looking at these tees--searching for a fun way to announce my next pregnancy, God willing--and saw that this seller "mrswitty" was giving away a free item to the 100th person to click the button that says, "I *heart* this seller." I thought, "What the heck??" and did it--and low and behold, she contacted me to say I won!! And since I love purple, this is what I chose!! It looks like the kind of tee I can wear early in the next pregnancy and after the baby is born, too. Doesn't it look comfy?? She even posted about it on her blog!
www.lackoftitle-art.blogspot.com
It tickles me. I love winning stuff!!! I bet it'll be so soft and cozy, I'll end up ordering more. After all the money I've spent on Etsy, it's fitting that I got something for free! What a blessing!

Saturday fun

Aaah, weekends. Not like my week is strenuous, but weekends are when I get to spend time with my working family members!! So my sis-in-law and I went out together--sans Andrew--Saturday and had a blast. We went to a friend's shop/bistro in Glendale's "Catlin Court" and enjoyed an extremely delicious (and leisurely!) lunch, including a turkey sandwich, salad, pita chips with spinach dip and a root beer. Mmmmm.

Then we browsed through a few charming shops, where I couldn't resist having my picture taken. Isn't this gazebo lovely?? I'd love to have a little mini-tea party under there!!

This little shop is called "Cottage Garden" and is one of my all-time favorite places to browse.

I had to force my wallet to stay in my purse with all the cute things we saw. Birds and flowers were especially abundant--two of my favorite decorative items!! But looking at pretty things and getting ideas was fun enough and just soaking in the weather and scenery made my day.
Isn't it quaint?? I wanted to just sit and read a book with a cup of coffee!
After Glendale, we grabbed some drinks at Starbucks and spent a while wandering through Hobby Lobby--another activity I don't get to indulge in very often. It was nice to be out "just us girls."

Sweet...and hilarious

Found on www.etsy.com, of course. This one brought tears to my eyes as I sang the song in my head...how sweet. I will get this for my next pregnancy.

And I'll have a hard time choosing which of these to use to announce my next pregnancy. This one is just plain cute "Bun in the Oven."

And this one, you can personalize the stork with your dute date! How fun is that??

And this Breast Cancer Awareness tee cracked me UP! I actually laid my head down on the desk, laughing. Just had to share.

Soap Box Saturday a.k.a. "Phthalates, continued"

Oooooh, how I love to be right!! :) I've been on the "phthalate-free" bandwagon for a looong time (I ride on a LOT of bandwagons, by the way). It's so nice when research and news hit the mainstream media about stuff I've known about for years--and have told people about, only to get the "Huh?? You're so weird," reaction.
Well, there's more and more controvery surrounding the issue of phthalates in the products we use, especially body care products and especially the effect on infants. I love it!! The fact that it's being publicized, I mean!
I just picked up my latest issue of Body+Soul magazine and there's an article about artificial fragrance in the products we use--which is where a lot of phthalates are "hidden," mostly to make the scent "stick" or last longer.
The chemical industry asserts that there are no conclusive studies in humans to suggest that phthalates are dangerous in the amounts to which we're currently exposed--DUH! Of course they do!! But some consumer advocacy, environmental, and medical experts disagree. My main thing is that there are SO many products that contain it, and we use SO many, EVERY DAY--especially women! Think about it: skin care, make-up, nail polish, perfume, household cleaners, dryer sheets, etc. etc. It must add up. My concern is also for pregnant women ingesting and absorbing it, then passing it on to their unborn child.
Here's a quote from the article:
"We found that infant exposure to phthalates is widespread, and that exposure to personal care products applied onto the skin may be an important source," says Sheela Sathyanarayana, an acting assistant professor in the University of Washington's Department of Pediatrics. This is disturbing because the safety of phthalates has been in question, with studies over the years raising more and more red flags. And, as Sathyanarayana points out, "Babies may be more at risk than children or adults because their reproductive, endocrine, and immune systems are still developing."
Here's where it gets scary:
"The animal studies suggest there is a potential for phthalates to impact birth outcomes, including gestational age and birth weight, fertility (lower sperm production), and anatomical abnormalities related to the male genitalia," says Maida Galvez, a pediatrician and director of the Mount Sinai Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit in New York City. "Human studies are now looking at the relationship between phthalates and asthma. There are also studies examining whether phthalates influence the timing of puberty or the risk for childhood obesity." (While phthalates have been shown to cause kidney and liver cancers in animal studies, the mechanism involved isn't likely to be relevant to humans, says Galvez.)"
WOW.
So...what can you do???
"While the news is alarming, there are concrete steps parents can take to reduce their baby's exposure to phthalates:

• Limit the amount of baby care products you use on your baby, especially if he's 8 months or younger. Sathyanarayana recommends using these products only if "medically indicated" — in the case of diaper rash or eczema, for example. (Researchers found that diaper creams did not cause an increase in phthalates. Santhyanarayana suggests this may be because they're designed to sit on top of the skin and act as a barrier rather than be absorbed, like lotions.)

• When you do use baby care products, choose products that are phthalate-free. Unfortunately it's not always easy to tell from the list of ingredients. Manufacturers aren't required to list phthalates separately, so they may be included under the term "fragrance." To find out whether a product contains phthalates or other potentially harmful chemicals, call the manufacturer or visit the company's website, or use the Environmental Working Group's Safety Guide to Cosmetics and Personal Care Products and search by product, ingredient, or company.

• Because phthalates are also added to containers to make them more flexible and more durable, and because the chemical can leach from the container into a product, you'll also want to determine whether a product's container is phthalate-free. Many — but not all — "natural" body care manufacturers are conscientious about this, but you'll need to find out specifically from the company.

Sathyanarayana cautions that some products labeled phthalate-free were tested and shown to have phthalates in them, though at much lower concentrations than products not labeled phthalate-free. "I think it's really difficult to know what is in any of these products," she warns. Still, Sathyanarayana says, if you're concerned about phthalate exposure, products labeled "phthalate-free" would certainly be preferable."
There ya go, folks. Look for "phthalate-free." And look for me to post more about this--we're just getting started! :)

NEW TABLE!!!!

YES, I got the dining room table and chairs I fell in love with last weekend! Little did I know that Drew had been conspiring all week to surprise me with it today. He came home from work and started telling me, "Ugh, how'd you get that dent in your bumper? Were you planning to tell me?" and I'm all, "WHAT?! No way! Lemme see!" but was slightly suspicious (it being Val Day and all and him coming home empty-handed). So we went outside and, yes, there was a dining room chair on the front porch!!

Inside it came, followed by the remaining seven, then he and Sarah put the table together. All the while, I was absolutely giddy with excitement and anticipation! The chairs instantly looked right at home and the color--both the green paint and the wood--was fantastic in our home. The top has a butcher block effect and the wood color is almost an exact match to our kitchen cabinets. It's awesome. With the leaf in place, it's a square shape and seats eight (two on each side), as seen here.

I LOVE it--that it seats eight comfortably and everyone can still talk and reach the center easily. It's genius. Here's a close-up so you can better see the color of the top and the green hue. I adore the color and the slightly distressed finish--it's so unique!! The black would have been a little too "normal." Bleck!!

And here it is with the leaf stored inside. Isn't that fabulous--that the leaf just disappears?? Oh, and it came with the Lazy Susan, how fun is that?? So most of the time, it will be this size and seat six. We placed the other two chairs alongside the turquoise sideboard. They can also be used as bar stools!

I'm thrilled. I love having eight brand new chairs!! We got it for a steal, too, and from a locally-owned store. I just couldn't be more happy about the whole deal. Thank you, Drew!! Boy, did you fill up my love tank with this one!! :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

From Andrew and I! Hope your day is extra-special!

Here's us hamming it up today in our red shirts:

I *heart* Valentine's Day!!

Ya know why?? Because it's totally frivolous! It's not a birthday, an anniversary, not Mother's Day--just a day to say, "I love you."
Andrew and I opened our cards earlier (he could've cared less) and my grandmother sent cash from Florida so I'm thinking that we're all going out for ice cream tonight!
Here's what my neighbor/friend/boss brought over--just for fun!!

And here's what was inside!! How fun is that??? I'm the type that, if given an extra $20, spends it on someone else. Or something practical. That $20 from my grandmother? I'm tempted to use it on a new mop--mine bit the dust yesterday. BUT! I'll force myself to use it for something fun. THESE goodies are all for ME--including a $10 Starbucks card that I will NOT be giving away! :)

I'd admired the polka dot frame AND the cute kitchen towels at Target but, naturally, I didn't treat myself! So getting them from my friend is a BIG treat!! And the polka dot Thank You notes are so ME...and and polka dot "T" post-it notes? Well, I HAVE to use them--they're a "T!" Thanks, boss!! We love you, too!!
We'll see what Drew comes up with on his non-exisitent gift budget...he usually manages to pull something off!!

I am so in love...

...with this table and chairs!!

Sarah found it for us this weekend. It's from a locally owned and operated furniture store a couple miles from our home and the owner is SO nice. We're in the market for a table and chairs and, although I've seen a few I like, this one seems to have my name on it. It's the new "counter-height" so it's about six inches taller than average and allows you to stand at it. It comes with EIGHT chairs...AND a lazy Susan! And it's green!!! Well, green and a dark wood that will match our kitchen cabinets--and other furniture--beautifully.
My vision has been for a black table and chairs--until I saw this.
Besides the color, which I adore, there's a lot of pros to this set:
1. It has leaf that disappears into the middle of the table, expanding it from a rectangular shape that seats six to a square that seats eight. And no leaf to store!
2. The unique shape means that everyone can reach the table from their spot--eliminating the need to pass dinner items and making it possible to play games together without anyone stretching.
3. The heighth makes it perfect for informal entertaining because you can put munchies on it and people can congregate around and snack.
4. The size and the number of chairs makes it perfect for hosting Bunco (now at my house twice a year) or a scrap-booking group. Or any group! Plenty of space and very comfortable to sit at. It's fun, too, cuz my feet dangle!
5. The price is $600. For the table and EIGHT chairs!! It's a steal.
6. It's from a local store so I'd be supporting a local business instead of a mass retailer or big-box store. Bonus!
7. It's green, slightly "rustic" and very unique. All wood, very well-made and sturdy.
The picture shows it at the angle you'd see it from when you enter our house.

I think it would jazz up the whole living area! I've got a lot of green already, but plenty of taupe and paprika, too. It would be a nice blend.
As a point of comparison, here's the table and chairs I fell in love with in Globe. It seats six and is around $1,000 (maybe $1,200??).

Thoughts? Opinions?

For lazy (or busy) scrap-bookers

WOW! This is so neat! The company is called "How Fast They Grow" and is meant to be done a page per month of a baby's life--but works for any age or occasion.
For $7.50 each, you get to design and add photos to these really neat 12 x 12 templates, then just sliiiiide them on in to your scrapbook!! It's all digital, of course. Very cool designs, I love it.

Babies and phthalates

Allow me a soap box moment.
Here's the headline today:
"Evidence of phthalates found in urine after using shampoo, lotion and powder, study shows." And here's a link to the article. Haven't given much thought as to what's going onto your baby's skin? You might want to start.
http://health.msn.com/kids-health/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100190606>1=10914
This is something I am passionate about for myself and especially for Andrew. Since his birth, the only thing that has touched his skin has been Burt's Bees and Arbonne. They are phthalate free, plus don't have sodium laurel sulphate or added fragrance. I don't need or want my baby to smell like sweet peas because, y'know what? Sweet pea smell makes me think of one thing: chemicals. I also don't bathe him every day. *GASP!* I know. And I don't put anything on his skin unless he has a diaper rash or his skin is dry or chaffed. As a side note, I also use fragrance-free detergent and no dryer sheets. And he has NEVER had a skin-related issue, nor breathing problems. He really hasn't had any issues, period. Is there a connection? I believe so.
I know this is one of those things many of you don't really have time to think or worry about and it is a sort of Pandora's box. So let me bottom line this for ya.
We (meaning researchers) don't know what the effects of exposure are. There's controvery surrounding small amounts of exposure versus large amounts (most of us get large amounts) and whether the effects are worse on babies because they're smaller and their bodies don't proocess things the same way, etc. etc. There's a lot of talk about the link to cancer, too.
Did you know that phthalates are banned from use in personal care products and in some toys in Europe? Yup. The U.S. is notoriously behind the curve in these areas. The thing is, we're not talking limited exposure here, nor is exposure limited to personal care products. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these chemicals are found in children's toys, infant care products, cosmetics, food packaging, vinyl flooring, blood storage containers and more.
I'm only addressing personal care items here but the concern is the cummulative effect along with the ones mentioned above.
Women are the worst. Think about everything you bathe in and slather yourself in EVERY DAY. And think about how good babies smell and WHY. Most likely, they're bathed in the stuff daily, maybe more than once, and then slathered in more. And in the above cited article, the researcher does recommend decreasing exposure, especially for newborns, "just in case."
Another interesting article:
L'oreal and Revlon just voluntarily took phthalates out of their nail polish!! Woo-hoo!! So, see? Companies are catching on and will be ahead of the curve when (yes, when) the U.S. starts seeing past the dollar signs--and consumers start wising up--and bans it, too.
http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/apps/nl/content3.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&b=85314&ct=366920
Again, there's the link to increased breast cancer rates. We're becoming more and more aware of the environmental factors that contribute to cancer, too. That's why got my mom and I on this bandwagon meany years ago--looking into ways you CAN try to decrease your risk of breast cancer. So we're very careful about what goes in--and on--our bodies. I'm especially concerned, being of "child bearing age," which is of top concern in this area because it is believed that pregnant women's exposure can also affect their unborn babies and boys in particular. Interesting, huh? They think a mother's exposure can adversely effect her unborn boy's reproductive system, too, which might be why more men are having fertility issues than ever before.
So...what to do, what to do??
Google Burt's Bees and Arbonne. They're two that I trust. There's other companies that make products labeled as "phthalate free" as well. Fragrance-free is likely phthalate-free, too.
I'm addicted to Burt's Bees baby hair and body wash for Andrew. And, YES, it smells wonderful! It touts being:
pH Balanced
Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate Free
Paraben Free
Phthalate Free
Not Tested on animals

Even Target and Walgreens carry Burt's Bees now, as does Sprouts. Their baby lotion and powder is lovely, too.
Think about your little one's skin...and the future of their health. Is the risk worth the smell? Is spending a few extra bucks worth decreasing the risk?
I'm stepping down from my soap box now...

My new find: Uppercase Living!!

I LOVE the idea of having inspirational or heart-warming quotes on the walls of my home! It adds a certain personal touch that I adore.
I've seen the idea in many magazines and decorating books--but didn't know it was available to "the public" (or at such affordable prices) until I was invited to an "Uppercase Living" open house last night at my Cookie Lee upline's house. All the higher-ups have gorgeous homes and they're all WAY into Uppercase Living so I knew the company had to be a winner.

YES, I am a direct sales addict--you know my philosophy: I'd rather give my money to a woman with a home-based business than to a big box retailer. They call me a "party girl" because I go to virtually EVERY home party I'm invited to! :) This particular rep has been with UCL for two years and was the FIRST rep in Arizona!!
The thing about UCL is that, for a small amount of money, you can literally transform the look of a space, a room--or your entire home! It makes it so personal and unique! Your home can literally "speak" to the people that visit. The images can be applied to walls (even textured ones), wood, glass, tin...almost any smooth surface.
Words can accentuate a piece of furniture, offer a "welcome" message in your entryway or accent a wall.

My first purchase was a simple "Welcome" to go in the niche above our engagement portrait right when you walk in the front door. Next I want the "Live well, laugh often, love much" for above the big entertainment niche in the livingroom.
They also offer a large variety of small accents for projects or gifts, many of them seasonal.

I love the idea of applying them to a tile for a decorative accent as well. The possibilites are endless!!
This is probably my favorite idea, perfect for a wedding or house-warming gift or "just because." People love personalized gifts!! Buy the wood, some paint, the applique and ribbon and you have a one-of-a-kind gift for less than $25!

All the expressions, words, images and letters come in an assortment of sizes and a lovely variety of colors--from earth tones to pastels!
You can even do custom messages--I created one that says "Nice only goes so far." It's so cool and adds so much to your home. Of course I'll be hosting an "Uppercase Living" open house in February! :) As a rep to three direct sales companies, I like playing the part of hostess every so often, and this company is definitely my new favorite.
If you're local and would like to attend, let me know and I'll make sure you're invited!! :)
If you're as excited about this as I am, I'll give you the code for my friend's web site so you can see the catalog and even play with a custom message.
Hope to see you at my open house!!

Another bargain...

...found at Target--and this one wasn't even at the end of the aisle! :) It was marked "clearance" and two other sets were marked down from $58 original to about $42. THIS set, however, was marked less than $15!! Whoa!!
4 each of mugs, salad plates, dinner plates and bowls! Only thing I can figure is that someone had opened the box, and the box of mugs inside, to get a peek--big deal!! I was thrilled. The on-line reviews have a lot of cracked pieces reported--so these will strictly be pieces for entertaining or decoration and WILL NOT go in the dishwasher. But, still, ya can't beat it! I got a set of two turquiose bowls--BIG--for $150 for table snacks when I host Bunco TWICE this year. Woo-hoo!!! Wasn't expecting to buy anything dinnerware-related, but, hey! Carpe bargain!!
