Well, well, well. Sometimes God still pulls one over on us!! :) I love surprises!! So Drew had this job lead and really felt good about it. I thought it was in the bag. Then they called Monday and said they offered the position to someone else. I thought, "Well, it could still happen--maybe the person won't accept it." Wishful thinking...faith...?? Either way, they called BACK yesterday and said the person they offered it to was dragging their feet and they need someone right away and would he come back to talk again??
Last night, we spent some time talking about what he was going to do, salary-wise. Having been a recruiter for accounting jobs for so long, he knew the salary range and knew it might be hard to get as much as we need. Also, we're doing Financial Peace University through our church right now and worked out a VERY tight budget, based on a certain "bare minimum" amount. So we decided, "OK, that's what you tell them you need, or you walk away." Yikes. To NOT take a job offer over what could've been a few thousand dollars a year?? Yep. "Bigger and better" was our prayer for this job, so we were sticking to our guns!!
So sure enough, he went in there and they initially offered him about three thousand less, saying they'd give him a two-thousand dollar raise after 90 days and he said, "Look, here's what I need to support my family." And the guy thought about it...and said, "We're not going to pass you up over a thousand bucks. It's a done deal."
So!!!! Now Drew is the "Accounting Office Manager" for the Phoenix Division of Baker Commodities, Inc. Woo-hoo!!! Bigger and better, baby!! :)
Here's what's so much better about it than his last job:
1. Closer to home. About half the commute and he can probably take surface streets with very little traffic. It's actually really close to where I "work," so we'll be able to have lunch sometimes!!
2. Casual office environment. He figures he can even wear jeans. But definitely no more suits with shirts and ties--and no more dry cleaning bill!! I said he could put that budget money back up in the "health and beauty" category! :)
3. Hours are 8 to 5 and he was told they DO NOT work late. Not only can be leave a little later but he'll be home by 5:30 or 5:45 at the latest--a big improvement over getting home at 6:45-7:00.
4. No commissions, no competition...so much less stress.
5. Benefits, including a pension!!
This is all such a relief. His former job was just not a good fit--it was obviously not working for us. The last year had been very challenging and we kept thinking a new season was coming...but, of course, the waiting is difficult. We knew the Lord had something "bigger and better" and although it didn't happen exactly as planned--He came through!! Praise be to God! The other good news is, now we feel free to expand our family soon so once we figure out his health insurance, that'll be job #1! :)
Thanks to all of you who were praying! We're celebrating in God's goodness and mercy and look forward to this new season of prosperity...and less stress! :)
